Author: Dr. Renita Weems

Dr. Renita J. Weems is passionate about her vocation as a teacher of spiritual insight. Whether it's through the books and articles that she writes, the sermons she preaches, the classes she teaches, the workshops and seminars she gives, or the lectures she offers, she understands her work that of as a midwife of inner wisdom, helping women and men know what they already know.

A former contributing writer to Essence Magazine, Dr. Renita Weems is the author of two widely acclaimed books on women's spirituality and wholeness, Just A Sister Away and I Asked for Intimacy. As special recognition of her contribution as a scholar and writer, Rev. Weems was featured in the summer, 1994 issue of Ms. magazine as one of fifty women across the country who represent the unique face of modern feminism because of her creative and critical contribution to her field. Her most last book let her return to her first love, women's stories in the Bible, Showing Mary: How Women Can Share Prayers, Wisdom, and the Blessings of God which was published May, 2002 with Walk Worthy Press/ Warner Books.

Dr. Renita Weems has spoken at national religious, civic, and sorority gatherings, local churches, community wide events, and on radio and television programs. She has been particularly active lately speaking to professional women's organizations about women's spiritual values and support systems, juggling family and work, work and spirituality and women finding a balance between their spiritual values and their professional aspirations.

Ordained an elder in the Methodist tradition, Dr. Weems has written about the waxing and waning of faith all believers endure on the spiritual journey. Her 1999 book Listening for God: A Minister's Journey through Silence and Doubt (Simon & Schuster) won the Religious Communicators' Council's prestigious 1999 Wilbur Award for excellence in communicating spiritual values to the secular media. She earned her Ph.D. in biblical studies from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Dr. Weems is especially proud of her new role as Publisher of her online newsletter, "Something Within: For Women Seeking Balance and Wholeness." This electronic newsletter allows Dr. Weems to keep in touch with readers interested in exploring women's values and interested in conversations about faith, friendship, aging, love, values, and inner wisdom, and other topics of interest to what Dr. Weems likes to call, thinking women of faith.
