Author Testimony
I can't name the exact day I became a Christian. I was probably
three or four years old. I've grown up in church and lived in an
awesome Christian family.
So why do I write Christian fiction? Well, I've always loved to
read. And I guess I'd say that I write fiction because I love a
good story. I'm a fan of most genres of novels, but I'd have to
say I favor a good romantic comedy. And if Christmas (my favorite
time of year!) figures into the plot in any way, then I get really
excited.
When people ask me who I write for...who my target audience of
readers is, I can't pin it down to any one age or gender or even
ethnicity. I try my best to write an entertaining story for people
who like to read good books. And hopefully, the story itself will
transcend all of the other particulars.
When I first got into writing, people with more experience in
the field told me to write the kind of books I wanted to read.
And that's what I try to do! (However, I haven't yet come up with
a great plot for a Christmas themed romantic comedy... Hopefully,
one of these days, it'll come to me.)
Christianity is a primary part of my characters' lives, because
it's a primary part of who I am. People also tell aspiring writers
to write what you know, and I know about being a Christian. I know
that praying the prayer of salvation didn't make me perfect overnight
(or even twenty-something years later!) I know that Christians
experience real emotions and face real problems, and that sometimes,
we put on happy faces even though we are hurting inside.
But I also know that God is the inventor of GRACE and that He
is patient above and beyond anything I can ask or even imagine.
And that's the main message I hope to convey in anything I write.
