For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has
his proper gift of God, one in this manner, and another after that.
But I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for
them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them
marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. I Corinthians 7:7-9
The two most "single" people in the Bible were Jesus
and the Apostle Paul and what Paul told the Corinthians is very
different from the way most of us have grown up thinking.
Many of us have somehow gotten it into our heads that marriage
and finding husbands or wives is something that we must do. Many
unmarried believe that if that does not happen we are personal
failures and incomplete in Christ.
Often, in "singles" groups, the main focus is on people
getting together or being matched up and much of the teaching and
activities revolve around dating. The thing about it is this: Too
many unmarried Christians are unhappy and confused because they
do not feel that they are capable of living in the fullness of
God without a mate.
Many do not understand that is God's will for them to be happy
with or without a mate.
We have the assurance in His Word that we can be unmarried and
happy in Him doing what He has called us to do.
There are a slew of books that advise married believers on how
to operate in Godly marriages but thus far, few on how to operate
in a state of being a godly unmarried.
God's Word for the Unmarried Believer™ seeks to remind us
of what His Word tells us is available to us if and until our mate
arrives.
We know there are many subjects and areas that are not specifically
covered in this book. We couldn't do them all. But, what we most
want unmarrieds to know is that EVERY solution to EVERY question
or problem that they may have is in the Bible.
God's Word provides comfort, direction, wholeness, promise and
fulfillment with or without a mate. It is with this in mind that
we present this book, first in a series that will include Prayers
for the Unmarried Believer™ and Devotions for the Unmarried
Believer™.
And for those of us who want to be married and are still waiting
for God's best for our lives in a mate, it is my prayer that this
little book, filled with words of Life, will encourage you to spend
your unmarried season, with all of it's tears and joys, seeking
first Him and His perfect will in all that you do.
